Hundres of Tibetan farmers, herdsmen recover eyesights

"Thank you for curing my eyesight! I am very happy now."Duoji, a 73-year-old came to the People's Hospital of Qushui County of Tibet with the company of his son to have a further check-up by Doctor Ouluo, who gave him a free operation for regaining his sight. Ouluo presented the doctor with a Khada to express his heartfelt gratitude.

From June 23 to 24, the Lhasa Medical Staff of Bright Eye Clinic Rehabilitation Institute supported by the Aid Tibet Foundation gave free operations for 100 famers suffering from cataract in Qushui County sponsered by Guanzhou Doctoral Technology Innovation Research Institute.

Located on the roof of the world, Tibet has thin air with high altitude. Its ultraviolet irradiation are so strong that it has made many people suffer from eye illness. Among all the diseases, cataract is on the top list. Locals can hardly live at ease when they suffer from it. Ciren Wangdui, deputy director of the headquarter of the Aid Tibet Foundation in Lhasa said.

Since 1993, the Aid Tibet Foundation has carried out countless free operations for cataractous patients in Tibet on the principle of "People come first, serve the general public". Over the past decades, they have collected funds, equipment and medicine worth almost 100 million yuan for curing the locals. Meanwhile, they carried out operations on cataract extraction and artificial lens implantation for almost 320,000 patients living in remote areas.
