Tianzhu Tibetan Autonomous County of Gansu Province, the first minority autonomous county throughout China in 1950 held a grand celebration on August 1 to hail the 60th anniversary of its establishment.
Tianzhu, also called Huarui in Tibetan meaning "Heroic Tribe", was named by China's former Premier Zhou En'lai after the founding of the People's Republic of China.
As the only producing area of white yaks in the world, Tianzhu is also the key water source reserve of the Shiyanghe River and the Yellow River.

In 2009, Tianzhu County achieved a total output value of up to 1.7 bln yuan, 64 times than that in 1978, with a fiscal revenue of 185 mln yuan, 62 times the figure in 1978, and per capita net income of up to 2,396 yuan, 21 times that of 1978.
