Mural Depicting a Journey

Separatist Regimes, from the Dung-dkar Monastery in rTsa-mdav County

Tibetan Plateau is vast in territory, and horses, yaks, donkeys, and mules are major means of land transportation. Moreover, during the seasons when agricultural and pastoral products are exchanged, herdsmen would load sheep with salt. Oxhide boats and horse-head wooden boats are means of water transportation. According to Tibetan historical records, wooden wheeled vehicles were also used in ancient Tibet. Nevertheless, because of bad road conditions, wooden wheeled vehicles were not widely used. This picture depicts journey of local deities with deer and antelo0pes as their seats, which is an imaginery depiction about myths and legends.
