Tibet athletes claim three trophies at National Games qualifiers
Tibet contestants earned a gold and two silver medals in the 2017 National Athletics Championships and the qualifiers for the 13th National Games of People's Republic of China (PRC) finished on May 19 in Jinan, Shandong Province, east China.

A total of six contestants from the middle and long distance running team of southwest China's Tibet participated in the men's and women's 5,000 and 10,000 meters events.

In the men's 10,000 meters race, Tobgyal won championship with 29mins and 32.82 secs, with Danmuzhen Tsewang taking second place and Mikyo Nyima ninth.

While in the men's 5,000 meters running, Tobgyal took second place, Danmuzhen Tsewang was fourth and Mikyo Nyima seventh. The female contestants gave it their best shot but unfortunately didn't make it into the top eight.

For the 23-year-old Tobgyal, this is the second competition he has taken part in since April 29, when he had to retire from the National Games Marathon due to cramp. He already qualified for the 13th National Games 10,000 meters final after taking part in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The final leg of the  qualifiers of National Games will be held in Guiyang, Guizhou, southwest China, in late June. Apart from Tobgyal, Tibet's middle and long distance running team is expected to have at least two more athletes qualifying for the competition.
