A national-level ski and mountain sports village is to be built on Mt. Gangshika in Qinghai province, according to information from the provincial sports administration.
Located in the Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai, Mt. Gangshika sits 4,045 meters above sea level, with the highest peak as high as 5,254.5 meters, which is the highest in the eastern part of the Qilian Mountains. The average temperature is 12 degrees Celsius, making skiing and mountain climbing activities possible all year round.
In 2016, Mt. Gangshika was selected to be a "national-level training site for skiing and mountain sports" by General Administration of Sport of China, becoming one of China's most ideal skiing sites in high altitude area.
In 2017, the Mt. Gangshika International Skiing and Mountain Climbing Competition opened on May 14th, drawing attention of many ski and mountain climbing enthusiasts from around the world.
Currently, the Sports Administration of Qinghai, together with Haibei Prefecture and China's Hiking Association, is planning to invest in the site’s infrastructure building and operation. In the future, Mt. Gangshika will achieve an economic return, helping increase local residents’ income and fully realize the effects of combined development.
