Lhasa finishes planning for new timber market

There are about 300 dealers running timber business in Lhasa at present. Most of them are grouped in Timber Trade Market on Nachen Road. The scale of the market is no longer enough to meet the market demand. Trucks usually have to park outside the market, putting a strain on the near traffic. Besides, potential fire hazard has also becomes a problem.

The new Timber Trade Market is located at the Taktse Industrial Park in suburban Lhasa. At present, preliminary work has been finished, including environmental review, farmland compensation as well as survey of the road construction.

Lhasa's municipal development and reform commission has submitted the proposal of the road construction project of the Taktse Industrial Park to development and reform commission of Tibet Autonomous Region, with a budget for the infrastructure construction.

After the on-site survey at Taktse Industrial Park, a comprehensive plan for the Timber Trade Market has been finally completed based on the previous development plan of the park.

In recent years, Lhasa has attached great importance to improving local people's livelihood by implementing a series of projects. The Lhasa municipal government approved 12 projects concerning people's livelihood at the sessions of 2010 Lhasa Municipal People's Congress and Lhasa People's Political Consultative Conference last year.
