Hong Kong mourned a second local volunteer killed on the mainland in the past seven months as Chief Secretary Henry Tang expressed condolences Thursday to the family of Tsang Man-kit.
"Mr Tsang's charity and love have moved the vast majority of the Chinese people in both Hong Kong and the mainland," Tang said at a press conference.
He said the Beijing Office of the Hong Kong SAR Government is helping the family in all possible ways.
Liao Hui, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Wang Guangya, director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, and Peng Qinghua, director of the Central Government's Liaison Office in Hong Kong, also extended their condolences.
Tsang will be laid to rest in Beijing after his Catholic funeral to be held on Saturday at Babaoshan. His remains arrived in the capital Wednesday.
Tsang's wife, surnamed Ma, flew to Yushu, a quake-stricken plateau area in Northwest China's Qinghai provicne, with the assistance of the Hong Kong Immigration Department.
She arrived in Beijing for the funeral after delivering relief supplies at two elementary schools on her late husband's behalf.
Tsang, 35, died on October 27 when the SUV he was driving was involved in a road accident. He was taking emergency relief to Yushu, where a massive earthquake claimed about 2,700 in April.
