More tourists bring in bigger revenue during National Day holidays

A total of 343,770 tourists from home and abroad were received in southwestern China's Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) during the one-week National Day holidays, dubbed as "golden tourist weak" with the total tourist revenue hitting around 131.82 million yuan, according to the Tourism Bureau of TAR.

The amount of tourists and tourist revenue were up 27.5% and 30% respectively year on year.

Statistics from the Tourism Bureau of TAR shows 148,908 tourists stayed at least one night in Tibet between October 1st and 7th with an increase of 23% over the same period last year, while 194,862 took one-day trips in the region, up 31.2% year on year.

During the holidays, the occupancy rate of star hotels stood at above 90%.

Wang Songping, deputy director-general of the Tourism Bureau of TAR, said the tourist market was well-managed during the holidays.

He said conventional tourist attractions still attracted a large number of tourists, such as the Potala Palace, the Tashilhunpo Monastery, Mt.Qomolangma, the Namtso Holy Lake, the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, etc.

Besides, tours in the countryside or the outskirts of cities have become new tourist attractions while traveling by car along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway or Sichuan-Tibet Highway has also become popular among tourists, Wang added.
