Nyingchi Prefecture in southeastern Tibet Autonomous Region plans to build the first campsite self-driven tours in the autonomous region, and hopes to build the campsite into a dream place for increasingly popular self-driven tours.
The self-driven tour campsite will be built at the entrance to the Pailong Canyon in the second half of 2010, and there will be parking lots, hotels, and other facilities so tourists can rest, have their broken-down cars repaired and enjoy other services, according to the Nyingchi Tourism Bureau.
The National Highway 318 that passes through Nyingchi is praised as China's Picturesque Corridor, and it is generally acknowledged that the view along Highway 318 from Chamdo to Nyingchi is the most splendid and magnificent.
Self-driven tourism has been booming in Nyingchi in recent years, and each day hundreds of self-driven cars run to Nyingchi via Highway 318.
The top priority in promoting Nyingchi's tourism is to accelerate tourism infrastructure construction, and building a self-driven campsite will be a good measure to improve the service standards of the local tourism industry. Nyingchi has taken self-driven traveling as a special tourism business, and plans to build a dream place for self-driven tours, Wang Jun, director of the Nyingchi Tourism Bureau said.
Nyingchi has a large number of world-class scenic spots, including the Brahmaputra Canyon and the most beautiful mountain in China, the Namjagbarwa Mountain. Nyingchi's tourism industry maintained momentum for fast growth, substantial profits and steady development in the first half of 2010.
In addition, Nyingchi received 420,000 visitors from around the world during that period, up 14 percent from the first half of 2009, and its half-year tourism revenue reached 210 million yuan, up 17 percent compared to the same period of last year.
