Woodcut painting shows specific Tibetan culture

The onging Tibetan woodcut painting exhibition titled as "Tibetan Jampa" in 798 Art Zone, Beijing shows visitors the specific Tibetan culture with about 60 pieces of artworks.

Tibetan Jampa, "woodcut painting" in Tibetan language, is a new-style Tibetan woodcut painting developed from traditional Tibetan culture by contemporary painters, which distincts from Buddhism scripture woodcut and modern woodcut painting with its strong color featured by Thangka painting and plentiful codes and figures in Tibetan culture.

Painters of Tibetan woodcut painting are from different circles of life, some of them are monks, some of them are poets... Different lifestyle presents different styles of their artworks.

Depicting the life of Tibetan people and the scenery of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, those paintings fascinate many visitors with unique charm.

An American visitor showed great interest on purchasing one after watching those paintings. "They(woodcut paintings) are very colorful, astonishing. I will think about it(buying one)." he said.

"I knew little about Tibet. Most on TV. In future, maybe I will pay a visit there." he added.

The mineral pigment, Tibetan paper used in woodcut painting were also showed in the exhibition for better understanding.

The exhibition will last till March 28.
