Traditional Tibetan culture effectively inherited

Tibet has put forward specific strategies in effective protection, inheritance and development of traditional cultural heritage during Tibet Cultural Development Meeting in 2011, according to senior official from Tibet at the recent 5th Plenary Session of the 11th NPC in Beijing.

The strategies demand great efforts in the promotion of a culturally prosperous, strong, rich and stable Tibet.

According to local statistics, the culturally preferential projects went smoothly and public cultural service system were basically completed in 2011. Tibet has established a total of 3,331 rural libraries and 480 temple libraries in the last year.

Meanwhile, Tibet set up 391 county and township-level comprehensive cultural stations and constructed cultural resource sharing project in all Tibetan cities and regions. The key cultural relics in Tibet have been well preserved and maintained, and 16 items of intangible cultural heritage have been listed in the third batch of state protection project.

Tibetan People's Radio (TPR) now offers 42 programs and columns in Tibetan language, including news broadcasted for 21 hours and 15 minutes per day in Tibetan language and programs broadcasted for 17 hours and 50 minutes in Khampa language every day. At present, Tibet has 14 Chinese magazines and 10 Tibetan newspapers.

Apart from these, the traditional festivals such as Tibetan New Year, Ongkor Festival, Shoton Festival and relevant religious activities are well preserved and inherited. Tibet now boasts a total of 1,700 places for religious activities, guaranteed by the laws and regulations of the state, which can fully satisfy the local Buddhists' religious need.

Also, social security policy, a long-acting mechanism, has put into force to guarantee the harmony and stability of Tibetan temples. All monks and nuns above 18 years old can attend social insurance in the local temples based on their own will.

The rich culture in Tibet has allured people across the world with its unique charm. Even the sparsely populated Moinba ethnic minority, obtained good economic benefits and expanded cultural influence through tourism with cultural characteristics and sales of ethnic handicrafts.
