Huge festal "Chemar" displayed at Potala Palace Square

In order to celebrate the Water-dragon Tibetan New Year which falls on February 22, 2012, a 6-meter-high "Chemar" was displayed at the Potala Palace square.

Chemar, a kind of offerings used during Tibetan New Year. Chemar is offered when you step into a Tibetan family during Tibetan New Year and the grandma will wishes you a happy new year by offering Qiema. It is a two-tier rectangular wooden box containing roasted barley and food prepared with butter.
