HUIBAO (preciousness) Sutra Printing, a studio jointly founded by Sera Monastery and Jokhang Temple has made remarkable achievement in preserving Tibetan Buddhist sutra classics since its operation in 2006.
Report by Xinhua says the studio has recovered and published as many as 328 sets of classic Buddhist sutras from the Potala Palace, Sera Monastery, Norbu Lingka, etc. by far, covering a row of subjects from Buddhist lections to astrology, philosophy, Tibetan medicine and so on.
Modern approaches such as electronic scanning, high resolution photo-taking, computerized storage and documentation have been adopted, with the efficiency largely increased.
Also classic preservation professionals and senior sutra lecturers have been invited as consultants to ensure the quality control process.
Another 30,000 sets of ancient religious classics or unique copies have been sorted and typed into computer, expected to be published successively in future.
The published books based on such preservation are popular among monasteries, colleges and various research institutes.
In the past several decades, billions of cultural preservation fund has been pumped by the central and regional government into such classic recovery initiatives which benefit both experts and common people on the whole.
