Shannan Prefecture, or dubbed as Lhoka, is located in southeastern Tibet Autonomous Region, along the middle and lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, where the Tibetan civilization was originated.
Covering over 80,000 square kilometers, Shannan homes a population of 320,000, of which 96 percent are Tibetans. During the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010), great achievements were achieved in Shannan in various social aspects.
