Breathtaking kite competition in 2010 Lhasa Kite Festival

A total of 36 contestants from all walks of life in Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) took part in the kite competition held at the racetrack of Lhasa on the afternoon of Sept. 19, 2010.

The contestants include local students, retired workers, physically-challenged people, business men as well as kite fans. While they were trying their best to compete against one another by cutting off their kite lines, the audience cheered up at the breathtaking competition.

Unfortunately, kites did not fly high enough due to the weak wind at the beginning of the competition. The humorous anchor then called on the audience to whisper together for a stronger wind because an old Tibetan tale went that wind would get much stronger if people whispered together.

Encouraged by the enthusiast audience, the contestants performed better in kite flying, which won the applause of everyone on site.
