Before dawn on Sunday morning, the Chinese flag was lowered to half mast at the Potala Palace square of Lhasa, capital city of southwestern China's Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), as people from all walks of life were standing silently in front of the flag to remember the victims of the massive mudslide which blasted Zhouqu County of Gannan Tibetan-inhabited Area of Gansu Province on August 8, 2010.
Chinese flags across the country and at overseas embassies and consulates were lowered to half-mast on August 15 to mourn for the victims of the devastating mudslide in the Zhouqu County.
He Guoqiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) as well as secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), who is now investigating in Nyingchi Prefecture of Tibet Autonomous Region, also paid a silent tribute with local people to the victims in the Nyingchi Square.
Zhang Huixin, deputy secretary of CCDI, Wu Yuliang, a member of the Standing Committee of CCDI and Sita, vice minister of the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, who are holding investigations together with He Guoqiang, also attended the mourning ceremony in Nyingchi.
