Dapu Observatory Station was original built over 300 years ago, located merely 50 meters north to Dapu Monastery, Maldrogungkar county of Tibet Autonomous Region.
Featured with its unqiue astronomical observation components, it is the only historic station left by now for Tibetan astronomical observation and calendar calculation.
The main structure of this observatory station is a three-story building with a flat roof which is 13.8 x 9.8 (meter) in area. This ancient station was constructed with stones, soil burnt bricks and was framed with wooden posts and beams. It was built on the eastern side of a valley while ruins of a original village nearby lie on the western side.
The decision of renovating Dapu Observatory Station was made on March 9, 2009 (January 13, year of the Earth OX according to the Tibetan calendar), after a breakthrough study by the Region's Office of Culture, Tibetan Astronomy and Calendar Center, Ancient Structure Center of Chengguan District, local Tibetan doctore Lekden as well as several senior Tibetans.
