Mt. Qomolangma Clean-up Campaign collects 4 tons of garbage

The three-month Mt. Qomolangma Clean-up Campaign ended on May 29 with a total of four tons of garbage being cleaned up.

The Campaign started in March and ended in May. During the last three months, members of the Tibet Mountaineering Team reached the 6,500 meters, 8,300 meters and 8,700 meters places to clean up 3.44 tons of garbage, 346 gas pots, 770 mountaineering ropes,62 tent relics, 167 oxygen tanks and some tent poles.

This is the first time Tibet has launched to clean up garbage in the Mt. Qomolangma at the places above 8,000 meters.

"It shows our high regard of protecting the Mt. Qomolangma," said Nyima Tsering, head of the Tibet Mountaineering Team.

The champion also arouses the consciousness of protecting environment of about ten international mountaineering teams who are trying to ascent the peak from the north slope.

For a long time, mountaineers from home and abroad have left a great number of garbage on the Mt. Qomolangma, which is regarded as "world's highest refuse dump".

In recent years, the consciousness of protecting environment of the Mt. Qomolangma has greatly imporved with a series of measures being taken.
