English-Chinese producer Sun Shuyun always comes to people's eye sight together with Chinese documentary and she says:"As a director of documentary, it's my duty to deliver a true China to all the people in western countries."
The film "A Year in Tibet" directed by Sun Shuyun first broadcast on BBC in 2008 and drew worldwide attention for its detailed description of ordinary Tibetans. It has so far been shown on TV in more than 40 countries and regions.
Graduated from the English Department of Peking University and then further studied for history in Oxford, Sun Shuyun had many chances to get some earning-stable jobs, but she chose to be a director, d director for documentary. All of her decisions attributed to her nature. "I like to break the stiffness and producing documentary offers me such a chance to appease my curiosity."
Every works of Sun costs a lot of time. Sun spent 13 months to re-visit the route for Xuanzang, a famous monk who paid a Buddhist pilgrim on the Silk Road; launched a new Long March within 16 months and making the film "A Year in Tibet" in three years. It is really hard for the others to imagine the difficulties, but for Sun, it is happy to deal with those she loves. It is the deep power for her to make those creative works which is also useful for the others.
Sun is also a writer. She has produced many works such as "Cloudless", "Long March" which get warm welcome among readers. Sun said:"Since I am a Chinese woman, I can touch the details through a female's point of view. I will make foreigners better understand China."
Sun is busy with another documentary talking about European history in 18th Century with an aim of offering reference for those developing countries by the experience and lessons in the process of modernization of Europe.
