Bangda Airport, built in 1995 and located in eastern Tibet's Chamdo Prefecture, is the highest of its kind in the world at at an altitude of 4,334 meters. It has the longest runway in the world at 5,500 meters.
The airport is about 137 km away from Chamdo City, the airport farthest from the city center. It is also well known for the changeable weather around the place.
