Shangri-la to have 5 national parks

Shangri-la County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, will build another four national parks apart from the Potatso National Park that opened two years ago.

Photo taken on Nov. 1, 2009 shows the Meili Snow Mountain in Deqen county, southwest China's Yunnan Province, photo from Xinhua.

The four parks will be the Meili Snowy Mountain National Park, Shangri-la Snub-Nosed Monkey National Park, Tiger Leaping Gorge National Park and Shangri-la Canyon National Park, according to Zhengyi, deputy commissioner of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

The overall plans for the construction of the first two parks have been approved by related Yunnan Provincial government departments.

Upon completion, Shangri-la will become the most distinctive tourist destination in China's Tibetan-inhabited areas and a world-class ecological tourist zone.
