From May 19 to June 10, the 2009 Lhasa Shoton Festival Organizing Committee collected designs for the Shoton Festival mascot from the public. A total of 26 ideas from 24 companies and individuals were received.

Finally, after half a dozen revisions, the work co-designed by Li Yibin from Heze, Shandong Province and Guo Wenjun from Luoyang, Henan Province was chosen as the mascot for the 2009 Lhasa Shoton Festival.

The mascot represents Lhasa's natural treasures, gifted people and profound cultural background. The mascot, performing Tibetan opera and holding a piece of Hada, will welcome guests and friends from all over the world with a smile.

It will display the honest, hard-working and hospitable folk customs of the residents on the Tibetan plateau and interpret the unique charm of the time-honored Shoton Festival. Although this lovely mascot has not yet got a name, it is certain that its splendid charm will be seen at any time and anywhere during the 2009 Shoton Festival.
