The official website of China's Xinhua News Agency on Tuesday launched a face-lifted Tibet channel, offering the world a multilingual platform to better understand the autonomous region.

The channel has Chinese, Tibetan and English versions available at the moment, and editions of other foreign languages will be featured step by step, according to the website, www.xinhuanet.com, also known as www.news.cn .

The channel features three major sections of news, service information and background material on Tibet. Programs cover Today's Tibet, Economy and Society, Culture and Religion, Tibet Tourism, Environment Protection, Aid Tibet and Tibet Studies.

The new Chinese version offers more pictures and videos compared with the previous one. It will highlight the development in the economy, society, culture, religion, education, environment protection and livelihood of Tibet and Tibetan prefectures in other Chinese provinces.

The Chinese version will also present web surfers a better database, offering programs including Tibet Profile, Glamorous Tibet, Tibet policies and White Papers on Tibet.

The English version, catering to overseas audiences, provides nearly 20 programs highlighting Tibet's economy, environment, religion, tourism, profile, service information and learning the Tibetan language.

The Tibetan-language edition, with 31 programs, covers nearly all Tibet-related reports. The design is unique with its Tibetan flavor.

The website promised that channel reporters, who cover all the Tibetan-inhabited areas in China, will give instant reports on local news, and its editors will also better process the news and information.

The multilingual channel can be reached by telephone (010-63070983 in Beijing and 0891-6341788 in Lhasa) or email (xxp69@xinhuanet.com).
