280 mln available for maintenance on Tibetan key cultural relics

By far, Tibe has finished a 280 million yuan project for maintenance of the Potala Palace, Norbu Lingka and Sagya Monastery, more than half of the total budget with 330 million yuan, according to a conference held by State Administration of Culture Heritage.

Among the finished investment, 150.92 million went for protection of the Potala Palace, 62.64 million yuan was invested for the Norbu Lingka while the rest was pumped into renovation project at the Sagya Monastery, said Yu Dawa, head of Tibet local bureau for cultural heritage protection.

This year, task for three key cultural relics renovation mainly focused on the main hall of Sagya Monastery, West Buddhism Scripture Printing Hall and Treasure Museum of the Potala Palace.

Projects of public assistance except lightning protection, will start within this year following an open bidding.

Built in the 7th century, the Potala Palace was inscribed on World Heritage List by UNESCO while the Norbu Lingka is the most intact garden with highest altitude and largest coverage on earth. And the Sagya Monastery is the main temple of Sagya Sect (stripe sect) of Tibetan Buddhism in Tibet.

Started in June 2002, renovation project for three key cultural relics in Tibet, was fully financed by the Central Government.
