"Lhasa Girl", a ballad produced by Ge Lai, is regarded as the most popular song in Tibet since it came out in late 1980s, according to Menang Dorje, a well-known composer in Tibet.
"It is hard to identify the first pop song in Tibet, but for the most popular one, there is no doubt that 'Lhasa Girl' would be our choice. To be honest, those who are around 30 years old, to say nothing of the children and young men, can easily recall this song," said Menang Dorje while another music celebrity of Tibet, Bian Luo also agrees that "Lhasa Girl" has a special post in Tibetan pop music though there were many fine works at the beginning of 1990s, such as "Khampa Fellow", "Yearn for Holy Eagle" and "Shambhala Not Far Away".
