Tibet to further develop Tibetan medicine industry in next five years

During the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015), Tibet Autonomous Region will increase fund input to strengthen the development of Tibetan medicine industry.

Ai Juntao, director of the regional finance department said, in the next five years Tibet will continue to increase investment inclusive of an annual special development fund of 10 million yuan in the development of Tibetan medicine industry.

Meanwhile, the regional finance will attach importance to the promotion of Tibetan medicine services, construction of basic public Tibetan medical facilities, fundamental medicinal researches, development of Tibetan medicine disciplines and medical talent education.

Tibet’s medicine industry has already seen remarkable progress in the past few years. Currently, there are 18 GMP-qualified Tibetan medicine pharmacy enterprises in Tibet and over 360 kinds of traditional Tibetan medicine are produced, 298 of which have been authorized by China’s State Food and Drug Administration.

Statics show that during the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010), a total of 750 million yuan was allocated for improvement of grassroots Tibetan medical care units, popularization of appropriate medical treatment methods in farming and pastoral areas, training of backbone Tibetan medicine talents and promotion of Tibetan medicine culture.
