Danba County is in the eastern part of Garze and serves as Garze's eastern entrance. Danba is located west of Sichuan and shares a border with Xiaojin, Ngawa on the east. The south and southeastern borders share a border with Kangding, and the west borders Dawu County. To the north and northeast sits Jinchuan, Ngapa Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Prefecture.
Traveling to the east, one can see the Ogshikuke Mountains, Orong Nature Reserve, Jiuzhai Valley and Huanglong, a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site.
Head south to visit the Qingge homeland, Kangding, Luding Bridge and the Hailuo Valley Glacier Park. Go west to enter the Shangri-La route, a major site along Western Sichuan's travel road.
Jiaju is Danba's most authentic Tibetan village, a place of picturesque mountainside buildings decorated with colorful banners and chosen as one of China National Geography’s most beautiful villages.
Danba is within the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau’s monsoon climate, with a yearly average temperature of 14.2℃. The average in January is 4.4℃, while the hottest temperatures are seen in August, which has an average of only 22.4℃.
Each year in April or May the mountain flowers bloom, the colors matching those of the Tibetan village. This is the best time to go sight seeing.
In September and October, the stone houses are decorated with golden maize in conjunction with the harvest season. This is also a good time to visit Danba.
Best times to visit: April to May and September to October. In spring you can see blooming flowers, and in Autumn Danba is bright and colorful.
