A number of well-preserved historical relics in Tibet have become hot spots of tourist attractions over the past few years, which witness the Tibetan-Han unity and serve as the bases to get a clear understanding of Tibetan history for the public.
These historical relics include the High Commissioner Office, Guandi Temple and site of resistance to British aggression at Mt. Dzongri of Gyantse County.
The High Commissioner Office at the Barkor Street was packed with tourists of nearly 3,000 a day during the National Day holidays. As a key program of the Lhasa old town protection project, the renovation of High Commissioner Office was officially launched early this year and opened to the public for free on July 7.
The High Commissioner Office established by the Qing Dynasty played an important role in the history of Tibet. With the 138 commissioners taking office, the functions of High Commissioner Office were expanded and strengthened, which later led to the establishment of the corresponding branches, forming a more comprehensive administrative system.
