2012 Mayors Forum on Happy City opens in Lhasa

The 2012 "Happy City Mayors Forum" was held Sunday in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region during the Shoton Festival on Aug. 19, 2012,focusing on the theme of raising happiness index of city life. 

With the purpose of finding new points to raise the happiness index of city life, the forum was held to discuss and find out what can promote people’s happiness in cities with various locations and development levels after China's urbanization had entered a new stage and how city managers can explore new points to better satisfy people's sense of happiness.

Delegations from over 10 cities across the country including Taiyuan in Shanxi Province, Yinchuan in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Hefei in Anhui Province and Xining in Qinghai Province participated in the forum, sharing their experiences of city management and thinking about improving people's livelihood in front of challenges and opportunities.

Besides, six authorized economists and sociologists also attend the forum.

It is reported that Lhasa has been selected as one of the most livable cities in China for five successive years in the "Economic and Life Survey" initiated by the CCTV with its residents 'happiness index' ranked first across the country in four years, which reflected that Lhasa has made great achievements in improving its people' livelihood and building up a happy city.

According to officials at the forum, another purpose of this forum is to build a "happiness sense" evaluation system expected to contribute in the 2012-2013 CCTV "Economic and Life Survey", which will produce the "10 cities with highest happiness index".
