Garze Tibetan Autonomous Region of Sichuan Province is an ideal place for butterflies because of its favorable climate. Many rare and precious kinds of butterflies of high research value live here. as a result, Garze gets the nickname of "Kingdom of Butterfly".
In spring, summer and autumn, butterflies are seen flying in the prefecture. They take different colors and postures in different temperatures, seasons and locations.
From 1892 to 1894, a famous American butterfly expert J.H.Leech led an expedition team voyaged along the Yangtze River to the Mount. Gonggar in Garze Prefecture. He found and collected a big sum of butterfly varieties. Since then, Chinese butterflies have been world-famous.
So far, 702 kinds of butterflies have been found in Sichuan Province, equaling the total sum of that on the European Continent, tripling that of Japan and quadrupling that of Korea. Research indicates that 400 kinds of butterfly are found within the Garze Prefecture.
