Work starts on a new Culture and Tourism Park in Tibet. It’s hoped the new site will help visitors get a better appreciation of the local art and culture of the Tibetan people.

About 2 kilometers from downtown Lhasa, and across the river from the Potala Palace, the Culture and Tourism Park occupies an area of 8 square kilometers.

A total of 30 billion yuan, or about 5 billion US dollars has been invested in the park that combines exhibitions of Tibetan arts and crafts presented by local craftsmen, with entertainment and tourist services.

Although the park will take between 3 to 5 years to complete, it will host its very first event next year, with the famous play "Princess Wen Cheng", a story of the marriage of a Han princess to a Tibetan King.
