Listed as one of the significant buildings in the first protection group of 93 courtyards in Lhasa, the Pomdatsang Compound was taken over by a 24-year-old man named Tian Xian who comes from Hunan Province for management.

In the south of Barkor Street of Lhasa, the capital of Tibet Autonomous Region, the Pomdatsang Compound is located in a concealed alley. A 24-year-old man named Tian Xian who comes from Hunan Province got the management right of the compound on early September this year, he is busing in decorating with a view to carrying on an inn businesses.

"Because the Tibetan manager of Gajilin Construction Company is my friend, so he has delegated the repairing right to me," Tian Xian said, "We will preserve the original look and retain the original characters of the compound."

Compound remains traditional decoration

The area of this compound is about 3000 square meters with 40 rooms. It is a typical aristocrat's courtyard in construction style. The main three-story building faces south allowed it to be bathed in sunshine. The U-shaped yard two-stories high surround and set off the tall and magnificent main building. But now the rotten wooden prop and ceiling, mottled wall paintings and rusty iron railing are in a bad state of repair.

According to his introduction, all the wall painters are local Tibetan and all the windows are handmade by the carpenters. Aside from the bathroom, all other furniture and facilities will keep the traditional Tibetan style.

Post-80s boy's crush on Tibet, reconstruction of Pomdatsang to the biggest inn in Tibet

"This is my third time to come to Lhasa. I love here deeply since I first came here in 2009. I will stay here for a long time because of this compound." Asked about his reason to preserve the compound, he explained.

He introduced that he plans to transform this old compound to the biggest inn in Tibet. As it's a huge project, he intends to pre-open the compound on New Year's Day in 2012. "This inn will aim at the foreigners so that the service here will meet their requirements. For example, we will prepare great cocktails, coffee western food and so on." Tian said.

In order to publicize this compound, Tian Xian called up people to design propagating posters for Pomdatsang Compound on a website in the middle of September. "But there was no one poster satisfied me," Tian sighed, "we really need to increase our visibility."

Asked about the price of rooms, he said the price of standard room hasn't been decided yet, but the multiple rooms' price is the same as the other Youth Hostels in Lhasa. Moreover, Tian mentioned that a folk museum will be constructed in this compound. "Every body can visit this museum no matter you will live here or not." He added.
