Most valued buddhist treasure - linden leaf sutras

The Bstanvgyur with the Eight Treasures, regarded as one of the most valued  collection in the Potala Palace, was commonly believed to have gotten its name from the reason that the scriptures on it were written in a liquid made from eight expensive materials like gold and pearls.

Among the sutras collected in the Potala Palace, the Linden-leaf sutras are the most precious. This kind of ancient sutras, on which the Buddha's doctrines were written, was rarely seen even in India. Nevertheless they are persevered in Tibet thanks to the unique weather and heavy religious ambience in Tibet.

Many scholars started to organize and research on the sutras preserved in the Potala Palace in 1978. Concentrated studies are still going on. Each and every relic of the Potala Palace has its unique religious meaning. For thousands of years, artificers who knew Buddhism well , created these religious arts to arouse the enthusiasm of the disciples towards Buddhism.
