Tibetan film stars at international film festivals

"A year in Tibet" has aroused world attention towards Tibet in 2008. However, in 2011, Tibetan film again catch the international screen's spotlight with the Tibet-themed film "Kora" competing at Tokyo Film Festival and another Tibetan road movie "The Sun-Beaten Path" winning the Dragons & Tigers award at Vancouver.

Kora", a Tibet-themed film, will compete at the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) running from October 22 to 30. There are only two Chinese films nominated in this year's TIFF and "Kora" is the only one Mandarin-speaking film.

"Kora", based on the best-selling novel of the same name, tells the story of a frail-looking man who journeys to Tibet by bicycle in order to fulfill his late brother's last wish.

The organizing committee of the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival unveiled the nominees for this year's festival on Sep. 21. Director Du Jiayi's adventure drama, "Kora" and Oxide Pang's 3D horror movie, "Dream Walker" were included on the list of nominees.
