Tying up sutra streamers is one of the most common customs for worshipping in Tibet. Sutra streamers, just like Mani stone and prayer wheels, can be seen almost everywhere.
Fluttering on mountain peaks and passes or in front of temples and monasteries or nearby rivers and lakes, sutra streamers is believed to bridge holy world and human beings.
Buddhist scripture is printed on streamers of five kinds of colors, namely red, yellow, green, blue and white, which embodies different meanings. Blue stands for the sky, white for cloud, red for fire, green for water and yellow for earth. As streamers waving in wind, pilgrims believe that holy sprits will receive their respect and their wishes are conveyed to deities.
