The world has continued to mourn the loss of life from the devastating landslides in northwest China, with international leaders expressing hope the people will rebuild their homeland as soon as possible.

As of Wednesday evening, the death toll from the downpour-triggered disaster in Zhouqu County of northwest China's Gansu Province on Aug. 8stood at 1,287, with 457 still missing. Extensive rescue and relief efforts are continuing.
