Food customs during Tibetan New Year


Potato curry is also called Xiangzhai in Tibetan language and is eaten in the evening of the first day of Tibetan New Year. Tibetans are fond of this potato curry. (Source CCTV.com)

Qiema, a kind of offerings that used during Tibetan New Year. Qiema is offered when you step into a Tibetan family during Tibetan New Year and the grandma will wishes you a happy new year by offering Qiema. (Source: CCTV.com)

Butter concentration is called Zizhuo in Tibetan language and it is sticked into the Qiema. It is always used during the festival celebration. (Source: CCTV.com)

Colourful sheepshead, which is called Longguo in Tibetan language. In Tibetans' eyes, sheepshead is the lucky thing and Tibetan pray a wonderful new year by putting Longguo in front of the Buddha niche. (Source: CCTV.com)

Dega, the most important offerings during Tibetan New Year and it is a kind of fried food for putting in the center of Tibetan cupboard. (Source: CCTV.com)
