Lungs of Lhasa in late autumn

Photo shows a reed field in Lhasa's Lhalu Wetland. The second phase of the protection project for the wetland is set to be completed later this year. Previously, the first phase of the protection project costing 90 million yuan (10.89 million U.S. dollars) was completed in 2002.

The Lhalu Wetland, praised by locals as the lungs of Lhasa, covers 12.2 sq km, or 11.5 percent of the total area of Lhasa city. As the world's highest wetland at an altitude of 3,645 m, it has drawn global attention with its unique geographical location and important functions.
