Experts of the German KFW Bankengruppe (KFWB) have recently visited Shangri-la Tibetan County to inspect and assess the urban environmental treatment project co-financed by China and Germany.

The project was included in the 2008 alternative project plan of the stimulating loans by the KFWB after being approved by the Chinese State Council, according to the Environmental Protection Bureau of Deqen Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province.

The project will require a total investment of 714 million yuan (86.4 million U.S. dollars,) with the German stimulating loans of 25 million Euros.

The project will also involve construction of municipal infrastructure, such as roads in new districts and pipelines, as well as dredging, embankment, pollution prevention, and landscape construction along the Nachi River flowing through the Shangri-la County Seat, and protection of the Napahai Wetland on the lower reaches of the river.
