The epic, believed to be about 1,000 years old, tells the life story of the fearless king Gesar, who ruled the legendary Kingdom of Ling.
Originating via folk oral traditions, King Gesar was passed down through generations in a combination of song and narration for over 1,000 years. Epic of King Gesar is considered the world's longest epic and has been collected in more than 120 volumes, with more than one million verses.
The epic is the biggest achievement of ancient Tibetan folk arts and considered an encyclopedia for studying the ancient Tibetan society and history.
