Highland barley 25, a new kind of highland barley, contains 8.62 percent β-glucan, the highest percentage in wheat crops, according to Qiang Xiaolin, highland barley expert and vice head of the Agricultural Institute of Tibet Autonomous Region Academy of Agricultural and Pastoral Sciences.
After studying 75 kinds of highland barley in recent 10 years, Qiang has found that the average content of β-glucan in highland barley reaches 5.25 percent and highland barley 25 contains the most β-glucan.
Biomedical secter belives that β-glucan is effective for intestine cleaning, blood sugar regulation, cholesterol lowering and immunity enhancement.
