Great development of medical conditions in Tibet

In the old Tibet, there were no modern medical institutions in Tibet, except for some small, shabby government-run organizations of Tibetan medicine and private clinics, with fewer than 100 medical personnel in total.

In the past 60 years, Tibet has gradually improved its medical and health service system, and established the medical service network covering the whole region.

Due to the outbreak of epidemic diseases at that time, the average life expectancy of Tibetans was 35.5 years old. With the improved medical conditions, the average age increased to 67 years old.

After the Peaceful Liberation, the population of Tibet also increased from 1 million to 3 million. Meanwhile, the maternal mortality rate dropped from 5,000 per 10,000 people in 1959 to 174.78 per 10,000 people. The infant mortality rate also dropped from 43 percent to 2.069 percent.
