The craftsmanship of making Tibetan incense was inscribed onto the State Intangible Cultural Heritage List in June, 2010. The production of Tibetan incense requires a series of processes before being shaped, mirroring the quintessence of Tibetan culture.
Making Tibetan incense needs a total of 38 medicinal materials including saffron, sandalwood, beeswax and musk. Of total, some need to be boiled, stir-fried and even steamed.
These spices with different proportion allocation are smashed, mixed, brewed, squeezed into standard shape and dried at last. At present, most processes of making Tibetan incense are done by machine.
