The third symposium on new interpretations in Tibetan Buddhism opened at the Tibet Buddhist Academy on July 8.
500 people comprised of Tibetology scholars from in and outside Tibet Autonomous Region as well as the entire staff and students of the Tibet Buddhist Academy participated in the symposium.
Drolkham Tudeng Kedrol, vice-president of the Chinese Buddhist Association and director of the Tibet Buddhist Academy, said that the symposium on new Tibetan Buddhist interpretations aims to promote healthy development of Tibetan Buddhism and preservation and inheritance of traditional Tibetan Buddhist culture.
Gonggar Gyantsan, a second-year student at the Tibet Buddhist Academy, told reporters that this was his first time participating in the symposium for new interpretations in Tibetan Buddhist doctrine. He hopes to take this opportunity to learn more from the high monks and Tibetology scholars and to exchange knowledge and theses with other students.
The symposium lasted for two days. Scholars, teachers, and students were divided into three discussion groups to exchange thesis topics and commend award-winning papers.
