The annual "Shoton Star" singing contest was launched with over 2,000 people nationwide signing up and 80 amateur singers attending the mass-election in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet, August 5.
The singing contest is an important activity in the upcoming Shoton Festival, or Yogurt Festival, one of the major traditional festivals celebrated by Tibetans featuring Buddha Thangka painting unfolding, Tibetan Opera performances and other local activities.
According to the organizer, the singing contest, played as a platform for national people to realize their singing dream, aims to enrich the cultural life of Tibetan people, explore a batch of excellent singers as well as carry forward the culture of Shoton Festival.
