A China’s delegation of Rinpoches and Tibetologists met a Brazilian congressman during the visit in Brazil, and exchanged opinions on Tibet’s status quo on April 18th, according to Xinhua.
During the meeting, views on China’s policies and measures about regional ethnic autonomy, economy promotion, and traditional culture protection in Tibet and other minority populated-areas in China were exchanged between the delegation and Domingos Dutra, a senior member of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil and the Chairman of Commission on Human Rights in Brazil’s congress.
Hao Shiyuan, head of this delegation and vice secretary of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that Tibetan ethnic officers held a 70% majority in the government of Tibet Autonomous Region, while the chairmen of local governments and congress are mainly native citizens.
Tourism, rather than industry, has been chosen as the pillar industry in Tibet, considering the fragile ecosystem on plateau area, said Hao shiyuan. He explained that Chinese government is still searching for better solutions during modernization in high-altitude regions, due to a lack of successful cases.
So far, the local economic development has made great achievement in Tibet, added Hao Shiyuan.
As for culture, Hao mentioned that Tibet has 6 universities and a large number of well-trained experts majoring in Tibetan culture, such as the Tibetologists of the delegation visiting Brazil; moreover the Tibetan language is fully applied in academic and literature studies, denying the lies of “cultural genocide” made up by the Dalai Lama’s clique.
Dutra, on behalf of Brazil, acknowledged China’s sovereignty over Tibet. He said that China’ experience and achievements in regional ethnic autonomy, economic development and culture protection are very inspiring for Brazil, considering Brazil is a country of multiethnic groups and races which also faces a variety of ethnic issues.
Dutra expressed his skepticism to the lies about Tibet spread by the West countries, praising China’s rapid economic achievements and the increasingly important role in the international community and saying he was eager to visit China.
The delegation arrived in Brazil on April 16th, planning to communicate with local communities in San Paolo, Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro, and would continue to visit Argentina and Chile in South America.
