A different face of Namtso Holy Lake, Tibet

The Namtso or Nam Co Lake is located in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. With an elevation of 4,718 m and a surface area of approximately 1,920 sqkm, Namtso is the biggest lake inTibet and also the second largest salt lake in China.

The lake is as blue as the sky, thus the lake is also called Tian Lake (literally, Sky Lake or Heavenly Lake).

It is said that in the year of sheep if any one circulates the lake and Tashi Island in the lake once and Tuechun Island 12 times, they can acquire merits and virtues. It will be a blessing for good health and a happy life for their family.

The legend says the Namtso is the wife of Mt. Nyaingetanglha. How happy the Mt. Nyaingetanglha is to have such a charming "wife". Now let's take a closer look at the lake following the works of photographers. Please stay tuned.

Tips:

When to go: The rainy season of Namtso from June to September is the best and almost the only time to visit Namtso, since in October and November, the roads there will be blocked by heavy snow.

How to go: The Lhasa-Nam Co road was completed in the year 2006, so the buses offered by local travel agencies are now the most convenient choice.
