This year marks the 60th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Tibet. To celebrate the achievements of the autonomous region, CRI news center will release a series of photographs depicting the region's rich natural, cultural and religious resources.

This package of photos is of the Jokhang Temple, the spiritual center of Tibet. Built in 647 by Songtsen Gampo and his two foreign wives, it has a history of 1,350 years. It held a supreme position in the development of Tibetan Buddhism and is a central location for numerous pilgrims.

Jokhang Temple was listed as a world heritage site in 2000, not only for its religious and architectural value but also for its priceless collection of cultural relics.
