The traditional Buddha painting unfolding festival is held annually at the Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigaste Prefecture between the 13th and the 15th day of the fifth month on the Tibetan calendar.
The three-day festival, with a history of over 500 years, will in sequence unfurl Thangkas of the three time-signifying Buddhas: Amitabha, Buddha of the past; Sakyamuni, Buddha of the present; Qamba Buddha, Buddha of the future (Buddha of Light).
