In late July, CGGC(China Gezhouba Group Corporation)-undertaken Lhasa-Shigatse Railway, the extension line of Qinghai-Tibet Railway, was successfully completed and is expected to be open to traffic in August.
The total length of Lhasa-Shigatse Railway is 253km, 73km of which was constructed by CGGC, starting from Dazhuka in the east and ending in Shigatse. The part that CGGC undertakes has 45 bridges and five tunnels, the length of which accounting for 30 percent of the total, and the average elevation ranging from 3,600meters to 4,000meters.
In order to protect the valuable wetland environment and prevent desertification, CGGC has taken stringent environmental protection measures throughout its construction process. In the process of roadbed construction, CGGC has taken measures such as vegetation transplant, minimization of temporary ground for construction, coverage with raw humus and planting of highland plants. Moreover, CGGC discharges its construction-related waste slurry after the 4-stage sedimentation process and delivers its waste slag to the designated spoil ground for processing, so as to protect the ecological system to the greatest extent.
